Rue Volley: get caught up!

On October Rue had a lovely re-release. Here are the details, you wont want to miss out!
Six Books, one epic journey. Make their story your own.

Blurb - Blood and Light - Book 1:
Rue lives in the quiet little town of Calvary, Minnesota. It is nestled along the Great Lakes and surrounded in lush forests. A home, a safe place to be, or so she thought.

Rue is planning her future and trying to navigate school and all other aspects of her life. Then her Mother falls ill. This sends Rue spiraling as she feels abandoned and without guidance. Attempting to make things better, Kai, Rue's only sibling, invites her to a party that will change the course of her life forever.
What would you do if you suddenly realized that your entire life had been a lie? That those who loved you the most had fabricated a world to protect you from a damning truth?

Blurb - Smoke and Mirrors - Book 2:
In book two the story takes a much darker turn. The rogue vampires are introduced as they try to destroy everything Rue holds dear. Rue is fighting her way back to reality after being abducted and forced to enter Valon, the ancient city to all vampires. Dark forces close in all around her as new enemies threaten to take everything she has ever known.
Epic battles rage, new enemies are uncovered, and the deepest of loves may have to be sacrificed for survival.

Blurb - Oil and Water - Book 3:
We join Rue as she wakes up in a foreign place. She does not remember who she, how she got there or why her heart aches so badly. She also has a very bad feeling that if she gets well, something terrible will come of it. She struggles to get a grip on reality as new friends try their best to earn her trust, but old enemies bring with them memories of a life she has all but forgotten.
Once again she finds herself in a battle of epic proportions, only this time her greatest enemy is her own mind and what it will accept as truth.
Will she allow herself to move forward? or, will she fade into memory once and for all?

Blurb - Clarity and Reason - Book 4:
As Rue accepts the tragedies that have befallen her family, she finds it almost impossible to allow love back into her heart. Everyday she is maturing, coming closer to becoming a true protector. Closer to understanding her power and what she truly is. All the while some old enemies have now become strong allies, and some allies are not what they seemed to be.
Will she love again?
Will she take the final steps and accept her powers?
Or will she force them back into the books, locking them away forever?

Blurb - Grace and Beauty - Book 5:
In book five the story takes an even stranger turn for Rue and all of the characters you have grown to love.

Jonathan suffers with a loss of such great magnitude he may never recover from it. Rue and Joshua try to cope with an ever growing Gracie. Theo try's to distract himself from his growing need for Jonah.
Suddenly a darkness arises that forces them to become the family they were always destined to be.

Blurb - Hope and Faith  - Book 6:
Rue faces the biggest obstacle in her path yet...herself.

Her power is so immense that she has weaved a safety net for everyone around her. She has created a new reality to ignore the truth. It is so impenetrable that she may not even be able to destroy it.
Their one true enemy has discovered their location after being buried in the earth for decades. This new threat will join forces with anyone who harbors ill will towards Rue and her family.
Rue must wake up to reality and set things right.
Will she discover her true destiny in time?

*as a bonus to fans this final book in the series has two prequels added on at the end of the book.

Excerpt from Book 2 "Smoke and Mirrors":

"What the hell are you doing here?"
"Saving your ass." I said
"Yeah, looks like it." Josh said sarcastically.
"Oh shut up, we have to figure out how to get off this thing."
We slid a little and I squeezed my legs against his sides.
"Oh, this is sexy." he said with a growl.
"Oh my God! We are going to die here if you don't help." I yelled at him.
"Okay, okay...give me your blade." he said.
"What?"
"Give it to me." He said as he lifted his hand. I placed it in his hand and he quickly sliced it across my palm.
"Ouch!" I said. He grinned at me as we slid a little more down the mirror.
"Let me drink your blood, I'm weak." he said to me in a low tone.
I pressed my hand against his mouth and I felt his lips on my skin. The sudden hum in my body was an unneeded distraction. I tightened my legs as I straddled him and he groaned. He pulled my hand away from his mouth, smiling up at me.
"Could you not do that?" he said.
"Do what?" I asked him.
"Press down on me like that."
"I can't help it!" I cried out as I tightly wrapped my arms around his neck , we started to slide down further and further.
He grunted as he tried his best to push himself back up with me on top of him.
"This is not the way I wanted our first time to be." he said with a laugh.
"Oh my God, shut up!" I yelled as he did nothing but aggravate me as usual.

Happy Hour in Hell by Tad Williams

Once again I find myself reading and reviewing a book by Tad Williams.

My thoughts:
When an author does a series the great challenge is for him to step it up for each book. I read and loved book one The Dirty Streets of Heaven. Did I love this one as much?
MORE TAD, MORE!! I loved this one more! The whole concept of the series to begin with is intriguing. What if death and the afterlife is really like that? So I say excellent plot on book two. There is lots of action going on. Never a dull moment! I love the vivid descriptions of hell. All the characters are well developed and I love how dedicated Bobby is to the woman he loves. Sweet and heartbreaking. Makes one think: What would I do, how far would I go for the one I love?
Something else that I feel need mentioning is that it is written in the first person. Very few authors can write in the first person and do a good job. Tad did this in fine style!

Usually I give a few paragraphs for you to feast your eyes on. I pick something from the book that grabs my attention and put in my review. But the problem is what I really loved, my favorite quote is a whole chapter. Chapter forty-one called 'the pain report' really got to me. So this time I am not going to post a quote and I am just going to say this...GO GET THE BOOK, Once you have read it then get back to me on chapter forty-one!

Blurb:
I’ve been told to go to Hell more times than I can count. But this time I’m actually going.

My name’s Bobby Dollar, sometimes known as Doloriel, and of course, Hell isn’t a great place for someone like me—I’m an angel. They don’t like my kind down there, not even the slightly fallen variety. But they have my girlfriend, who happens to be a beautiful demon named Casimira, Countess of Cold Hands. Why does an angel have a demon girlfriend? Well, certainly not because it helps my career.

She’s being held hostage by one of the nastiest, most powerful demons in all of the netherworld—Eligor, Grand Duke of Hell. He already hates me, and he’d like nothing better than to get his hands on me and rip my immortal soul right out of my borrowed but oh-so-mortal body.

But wait, it gets better! Not only do I have to sneak into Hell, make my way across thousands of miles of terror and suffering to reach Pan- demonium, capital of the fiery depths, but then I have to steal Caz right out from under Eligor’s burning eyes and smuggle her out again, past demon soldiers, hellhounds, and all the murderous creatures imprisoned there for eternity. And even if I somehow manage to escape Hell, I’m also being stalked by an undead psychopath named Smyler who’s been following me for weeks. Oh, and did I mention that he can’t be killed?

So if I somehow survive Hell, elude the Grand Duke and all his hideous minions and make it back to the real world, I’ll still be the most hunted soul in Creation. But at least I’ll have Caz. Gotta have something to look forward to, right?

So just pour me that damn drink, will you? I’ve got somewhere to go.

Author spotlight: Zoe Adams

Dear readers I give you the lovely:
Zoe Adams

Zoe Adams hails from a seaside town on the east coast of England. Books and writing are her passions, and this has led to her gaining a degree in Professional Writing. Zoe takes inspiration from different cultures and their rich mythology. This is evident in the Shōjō series, beginning with Best Served Chilled. When not reading or writing, Zoe indulges in a healthy obsession with anime, spending time with her family, and listening to a wide variety of influential music. Amongst other things anyway.

With her alternative mind, who knows what she will write next?

Her current release is a story called 'Best Served Chilled'

Blurb:
“What would you give to make it stop?”
Life hasn’t been easy for Hiraku Michiyo. Struggling with the misery that dwells in her past and her present, she’s spending more time with a wine glass than real friends. One night, she meets the charismatic, Shoichi.
Intrigued and a little frightened, she invites him home.
Yet little does she realise that the real horrors are just beginning. And escape is certainly not at the bottom of any bottle.

Excerpt:
Above her, the shōjō began to glow a brilliant red. His skin bubbled, as he pulled her energy into him. He drank in her nightmares, fears, hopes and dreams. Jealousies from childhood rose to the surface.

Stronger and stronger, the shōjō grew. This had to be the most satisfied he had felt in such a long time. True it was a shame her old man had to die, but at least he'd been happy for a short while.

And now to find his affections after all these years. Oh he couldn't have wished for anything as sweet as this. Father like daughter. And the corruption was ever so easy.

These little humans were his idea of fun. They were the perfect toys; fun for hours and so easy to break. With the right beverage, he just had to seek them out. Other demons might sneer at his profession but he didn't have a care in the world. Especially right this second.

Musical inspiration:
 D-Technolife by UVERworld.
A J-Rock track that makes me want to punch and kick the world until it is black and blue all over. This features in the anime Bleach during the second opening and always makes me think of fighting against what is wrong with the world. This track was at the forefront of my mind for a later chapter.

Rebel Love Song by Black Veil Brides.
It was my song of the month when I was writing the novella. Not everyone likes them and they’re a topic for hate. I know how that feels, and I love them. The song holds a lot of meaning for me.

Waking the Demon by Bullet For My Valentine.
The title is self-explanatory really. Inspirational for a certain naughty chapter. Read it when you get to it – you’ll enjoy it. I know I did writing it!

Help Is On The Way by Sixx: A.M.
A real rock track with a hell of a lot of meaning for myself and our heroine. Definitely how Hiraku feels at times. I’ve been inside her mind…

SCANDAL BABY by SCANDAL.
This is a feisty little J-Pop track that gets me in the mood to write anything! It was also featured as the title and main track for the first professional university script I wrote, which centred around teen pregnancy. Different from demons.

Can’t Stop Me Now by Rod Stewart.
This song is an anthem for me. Not only has it made me cry on multiple occasions, but I have realised the true extent of the lyrics. It means something to me and to my parents. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea (or coffee, or even glass of wine).

If you like to take walk on the dark side then this album is for you. The unique synthy-goth-punk style  of these four magnificent musicians is astounding. Songs 1-3,5, 7 will make you jump around and dance. 4, 6, 8, and 9 will make you feel and think. Take the time to listen closely to the poetry that is the lyrics of every song, each one is heartfelt and full of beautiful emotion. The strong British voice of the front man Crilly is lovely and charming along with the backing vocals of Nico the bassist and Adam the guitarist. All of the music is well written and cohesive, the percussionist Jim puts his amazing talent in each song in such a way that you feel like your heart beats in time with the drums. Crilly does an amazing job weaving the synths around each song.
I loved every song on this album. I highly recommend it! And any of you who happen to be in the UK go see them live! I was fortunate enough to be in the UK this summer and got to see them at two of their gigs. They are mind blowing live! It does not matter the venue or how big the crowd is. They BRING IT! Caleb by Kim Mcniel

Caleb-Blurb/Teaser/Synopsis
Blurb:
Caleb loves the ladies and can't keep his ego in his pants. With a new set of legs to wrap around him every two nights, he never thinks about what he'd do if Sarah caught him - until she does.
The repercussions are cataclysmic, giving him a second chance at life. Who is Caleb really? The ego or the man he professes to be? This playa plays to win.
Synopsis:
Living a double life, Caleb is a hard-working and self-assured man, who doubles as an arrogant, cocky and womanizing prick. With his choices of women on a layaway plan, he’s never lonely.
Caleb believes he’s nailed the market on being the ultimate playa and never wonders what the consequences could be if Sarah, his live in, ever found out…until she does. When Sarah turns his life upside down, Caleb loses it and catastrophe follows not far behind.
When his world gets flipped right size up, he begins to realize the things that are really important to him. Although Caleb makes some ultimate sacrifices to save his pride, ego and relationship with Sarah, he still hides one very important secret.
Excerpt:
Stopping at the florist on the way home, I pull in and pick up a dozen pink roses for Sarah. Yes, sucking ass big time.
Hey, if it works…then I’ll be all good. When I’m good, everyone is good. God forbid I get red roses, she’d want to run off to the fucking chapel. That isn’t going to happen to me, not in this lifetime anyways. I stroll in the house.
“I’m home babe,” I yell out, dropping the folder on the table.
“Upstairs,” Sarah yells back. I know this tone.
Skipping two steps at a time, I follow the circular staircase. I dodge the hanging chandelier with my head. Something else she had to have, forgetting I am well over six fucking feet tall.
“Hi darling, these are for you,” I hand her the flowers.
“Why? Because you slammed the phone down in my ear earlier?”
And…here we go! She’s such a bitchacoholic.

SPOTLIGHT: SKELETON KID

I just seem to have a way of finding these really lovely British musicians lately! I have found another one! Skeleton kid! I ran into them on Facebook and am very impressed by their music.
Here are the members of the band:

Frankie G-Guitars and vocals
Josh D- Drums
Timmy C- Bass and vocals

In their own words on the formation of their band and what they are all about:
Skeleton Kid is a three-piece dark punk rock band who do anything and everything in the name of rock ‘n’ roll. From Bournemouth, UK, Skeleton Kid’s sound is a heavy mixture of punk, metal and 80’s rock.

The band started in early 2011 when bassist Timmy C and guitarist Frankie G came together over a love of 80s metal, punk, horror and all things excessive to create a new band with outrageous antics and a new breed of music.

Skeleton Kid have played with some of their favorite bands over 2012 and the reaction to their debut EP has been overwhelming. The bands hard work has secured them a firm fan base.

"Boot stomping punk anthems" "Middle finger attitude” and "pure punk indulgence" are just some of the comments skeleton kid have obtained within the last year of extensive gigging.

2013 brings the release of their first full-length album, produced by Tom Jobling, also more touring and debauchery in the UK. Their mission statement is to leave a trail of booze, sex and cigarettes in their wake. Come along and join the ride.
